PROMOTING MENTAL HEALTH,
PREVENTING EMOTIONAL DISTRESS

Our Mental Health Programs, based out of our Health and Wellness Centers, aim to ensure that the children, individuals, and families we serve have the opportunity to grow up happy, healthy and strong. We do this by providing direct individual child and family intervention by supporting parents and caregivers, and by helping children, adults and their families build on their unique strengths while managing their particular challenges. Interventions are designed to build on core strengths while increasing the range of available supports to individuals and families.

Together our talented clinicians and staff continue to help children and families manage stress and mental health challenges to fully enjoy their lives. Services are available to adults, families, and children ranging from birth through adolescence.

– Psycho-educational testing and support related to school placement
– Advocacy, referral and linkage to community based organizations such as the  Westchester County Department of Community Mental Health.
– Funding streams for MHD programs are primarily through third party payers including Medicaid,  Medicaid Managed Care, commercial insurance and Medicare.

Please consider support for our Health Equity Access Fund:

Andrus proposes an innovative pathway that transforms the landscape for providing care: Along with our partner, Children’s Hope Chest, which has seeded the program, Andrus has created the Health Equity Access Fund for uninsured and underinsured individuals seeking community, health and mental health services. These individuals either have no insurance, or the child has Medicaid, but the parent is uninsured; or an individual parent or child has insurance, but their plan does not cover a needed service, or has a co-pay which is too high for them to afford.

The Andrus Health Access Fund will incorporate the Social Determinants of Health screening process to provide the proper care. The tool was developed in collaboration with New York University’s McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research.

The Health Access Fund would provide preventative and restorative services, including mental health, social services, prenatal and early childhood health and development, family preservation and other needed support services. Individuals served by the fund will primarily be low-income, Black, Latinx, or people whose native language is not English, as well as people who may have low-to-moderate educational attainment.

SCHOOL BASED MENTAL HEALTH

The Andrus School-Based Mental Health Program has grown to six school districts in Westchester county.

The S.E.E.D. (Social and Emotional Enrichment and Development) Program provides screenings to all referred children; assess the need for mental health treatment and appropriateness for services if indicated. Once admitted to treatment with the program, clinicians will work with caregivers and children to develop appropriate treatment plans to address mental health concerns. Ongoing services that will be provided include individual therapy for the child, regular contact and collateral sessions with caregiver to address any concerns at home, family therapy sessions, and consultation with teachers and school staff to support intervention for any classroom issues. These services are provided in the school during the school day, but the opportunity exists to continue treatment in the clinic (including psychiatric services or a group modality).

We presently serve the student population at the following school districts:

WHITE PLAINS CLINIC

– White Plains School District

YONKERS CLINIC

– Yonkers City School District
– Charter School of Educational Excellence

PEEKSKILL CLINIC

– Lakeland School District
– Ossining School District
– Peekskill School District
